Progress reports, publications and publicity
(i) It is a condition of this grant that arc receives an annual report and lay summary within one month of the anniversary of the commencement of the grant to cover work over the year, including a list of publications arising from the work, and a final report and lay summary within 3 months of the end of the period of this grant.
(ii) Grant holders will have included in their application ways in which the success of their research is to be measured and arc also has the right to specify such measures. Annual and final reports must include the progress and outcomes using these measures and report on the degree of success achieved. Reports must also specifically indicate the relevance of their research progress and outcomes to arthritis and associated conditions. Grant holders must retain documents relating to the grant for a period of not less than 10 years after the end of the grant to allow retrospective assessment.
(iii) arc will carry out assessments of the success or failure of all of its funded work, and will scrutinize all work as to its potential for development for the specific benefit of people with arthritis. This may include recommendations to build on individual pieces of work. Grant holders are required to co-operate fully with arc in carrying out such assessments, both during and after the period of the grant.
(iv) Grant holders should note that failure to submit a report or to co-operate with arc's assessment of their work may cause arc to withhold funds and refuse to consider further grant requests from the grant holder and their department.
(v) All grant holders are required to acknowledge arc in all publications, presentations arising from work carried out under the grant and in all correspondence and advertisements relating to the appointment of staff. When acknowledging arc support, the arc grant reference number must be quoted. The arc logo may be downloaded by clicking here, and poster stickers may be obtained from the Research and Education Department.
(vi) On acceptance for publication, a copy of the final manuscript of all peer reviewed research papers supported in whole or in part by an arc grant must be deposited in an open access archive such as PubMed Central (PMC) or UK PubMed Central (UKPMC), to be made freely available within six months of publication. Any exceptions to this must be sanctioned by arc. As part of arc's ongoing evaluation of its activities, arc reserves the right to require grant holders to continue to forward, on request, research papers relating to the grant for some time after the termination date of the grant.
(vii) Grant holders must ensure that any written press statement associated wholly or partly with the research to be funded by the grant is approved by arc's Press Officer prior to release. Grant holders are required to support a local press release announcing the award of their grant in order to give publicity to arc's work.
(viii) arc recognises that publication of the results of research may need to be delayed for a reasonable period while seeking protection of intellectual property arising from the research. However, any such periods of delay in publication should be kept to a minimum.
