Queries raised by applicants completing arc application forms:

| What is the current rate of inflation to be used when calculating salaries? | The percentage used must be the same as the most recent pay award agreed by the Institution |
| What can we include in "expenses"? | These will be whatever is needed to support the research or post |
| Can a personal referee be a Head of Department? | Yes |
| How long is a "session" in respect of protected research time? | 1 session = half a day |
| How long will it take to get a decision following application? | Approximately 4 months (except for Programme Grants where the evaluation process will take up to 1 year) |
| Does preliminary data have to embedded in the text or can I add it as an Appendix? | This should be included within the research proposal although if diagrams are involved, we would accept additional appendices |
| Do I attach copies of papers in press relating to the application? | Do not send papers that are in press although if a reviewer asks for them, we may request these at a later date |
| Can I apply for travel to a conference to present arc-funded research? | arc grant holders are eligible for travel support which is an additional discretionary allowance on a grant |
| Can I apply for costs relating to recruitment? | No |
| Can I apply for the cost of a new computer? | There must be strong justification showing that the computer will be used specifically for the project outlined in the application and would not normally be provided by the Institution. |
